'Ukiyo' is 'The Floating World' and Ukiyo-e translates as 'Images of the Floating World'.
Surimono translates from the Japanese as 'Printed Things' - Suri (printed) Mono (things) , a 'Surimono' in the context of Japanese Wood-block printing is a limited edition print of the highest quality usually commissioned to include a piece of poetry by a Japanese Poetry Society.
I put Surimono.com up on the web in 1999 to share a selection from my Japanese Print Collection with you, it was one of the first specialist sites of its kind then. I wanted to illustrate the beauty and power of these influential works of art. My particular passion is images of the Kabuki Theatre and the powerful portraits of known Actors of the day.
